About Us

An independent UK specialist for Italian-made pasta and pizza tools, kitchen equipment and more.

Pasta Kitchen launched in 2016 with a straightforward aim: stock the tools that actually make a difference when you're cooking Italian food at home. We're a family-run business, and Italian cooking tools are genuinely what we know. We've been selling Marcato pasta machines and Eppicotispai tools the entire time, and every product we add to the range gets used and tested by our team at home before it goes on the site.

The range has grown a lot since then, but the approach hasn't. We choose products we believe in, from brands that have been making them properly for decades. Almost everything we sell is made in Italy. Marcato pasta machines are manufactured in Campodarsego, near Padova. Berkel slicers and knives are made in Italy, in the province of Varese. Cerutti Inox and Eppicotispai are Italian-made brands we've carried for years.

We're an authorised UK retailer for the brands we carry. Everything is supplied with UK-compatible plugs where applicable, VAT is included in the price, and there are no import duties or customs surprises on delivery.* You may be able to find some of these products cheaper from overseas sellers, but what you won't get is UK warranty support, correct specifications for the UK market, or anyone to call if something goes wrong.

A compact fine grater made by Eppicotispai in Italy, designed for the kind of grating jobs that don't need a full-sized tool. The grating surface measures 6 x 4 cm, which is enough to work a whole nutmeg down to nothing or zest a lemon cleanly without reaching for the box grater. All stainless steel, 11.5 cm overall length.

What It Grates Well

The fine grating surface is best suited to hard, dry ingredients where you want small, even results. Nutmeg is the obvious use, but it works equally well for hard cheese over pasta, citrus zest into sauces or batters, and hard chocolate for finishing desserts. The small format makes it easy to grate directly over a pan or plate.

  • Whole nutmeg: the primary use, and what this grater does best
  • Hard cheese: Parmesan or Grana Padano over pasta or risotto
  • Citrus zest: lemon, orange or lime directly into a bowl or pan
  • Hard chocolate: for finishing tiramisù, panna cotta or hot drinks

Size and Construction

At 11.5 x 5.2 cm with a 6 x 4 cm grating surface, this is a tool you can keep in a drawer or hang on a hook without it taking up meaningful space. The all-stainless construction means there's no handle to crack and nothing to absorb food smells between uses.

  • Overall size: 11.5 x 5.2 cm
  • Grating surface: 6 x 4 cm
  • All stainless steel, no plastic components
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Made in Italy by Eppicotispai

Why Choose This Grater

Freshly grated nutmeg has noticeably more flavour than pre-ground, and this is the tool that makes it practical to use it that way. Small enough to store anywhere, simple enough to clean in seconds, and made in Italy from stainless steel rather than the coated plastic that most small graters are made from.

What's the difference between this and a rasp grater?

A rasp grater has longer, sharper teeth and produces fluffier, airier results — better for finishing Parmesan over pasta at the table. This grater has a finer, more punched surface that suits nutmeg, hard chocolate and citrus zest well. Both are useful; they do slightly different jobs.

Can I use this for citrus zest?

Yes. The fine surface works well for lemon, orange and lime zest. Press lightly and rotate the fruit rather than scrubbing back and forth, which helps avoid grating into the bitter white pith.

Is it dishwasher safe?

Yes. The all-stainless construction means it can go in the dishwasher without any part of it warping or degrading. Rinsing it promptly after use, especially after citrus zest or nutmeg, makes cleaning easier either way.

How much nutmeg does the grating surface hold?

The 6 x 4 cm surface is enough to grate a full nutmeg to nothing in one session. For most recipes a few passes is all you need, so the compact size is rarely a limitation in practice.
