About Us

An independent UK specialist for Italian-made pasta and pizza tools, kitchen equipment and more.

Pasta Kitchen launched in 2016 with a straightforward aim: stock the tools that actually make a difference when you're cooking Italian food at home. We're a family-run business, and Italian cooking tools are genuinely what we know. We've been selling Marcato pasta machines and Eppicotispai tools the entire time, and every product we add to the range gets used and tested by our team at home before it goes on the site.

The range has grown a lot since then, but the approach hasn't. We choose products we believe in, from brands that have been making them properly for decades. Almost everything we sell is made in Italy. Marcato pasta machines are manufactured in Campodarsego, near Padova. Berkel slicers and knives are made in Italy, in the province of Varese. Cerutti Inox and Eppicotispai are Italian-made brands we've carried for years.

We're an authorised UK retailer for the brands we carry. Everything is supplied with UK-compatible plugs where applicable, VAT is included in the price, and there are no import duties or customs surprises on delivery.* You may be able to find some of these products cheaper from overseas sellers, but what you won't get is UK warranty support, correct specifications for the UK market, or anyone to call if something goes wrong.

The Otello is a limited-edition pasta machine from Marcato, built to mark the origins of the company. Otello Marcato made the first manual pasta machine in 1930, and this machine takes his name. It is fully functional and uses the same anodised aluminium alloy roller technology as the Atlas line, but the materials are in a different category entirely: the body is anodised aluminium in a champagne finish rather than chrome-plated steel, the base is solid walnut finished with natural oils, and the handle is turned walnut rather than ABS plastic. At 2.5 kg it is noticeably heavier in the hand than a standard Atlas machine. Production is limited and stock is not guaranteed to be replenished.

Free cleaning brush included (add before checkout)

Add the free cleaning brush to your basket when purchasing the Otello. The brush will only be included if it is added before checkout.

What the Otello Makes

The Otello rolls and cuts three pasta shapes using a 7-position thickness dial, running from 5.8 mm at the widest setting down to 0.7 mm. The dial range is slightly narrower than the 10-position Atlas machines, but covers the full practical range for the shapes the machine produces.

  • Lasagne sheets, 150 mm wide
  • Fettuccine, 6 mm ribbon
  • Tagliolini, 1.5 mm fine ribbon
  • 7 thickness settings from 5.8 mm down to 0.7 mm

Materials and Construction

The body is anodised aluminium in a champagne finish. Anodising hardens the surface and makes it resistant to scratching and wear; the champagne colour is integral to the material rather than a coating. The rollers are Marcato's patented anodised aluminium alloy, food-safe with no nickel content and no coatings that can flake. The base and handle are solid walnut, finished with natural oils rather than lacquer, which means the wood can be re-oiled if needed over time.

  • Body: anodised aluminium, champagne finish
  • Rollers: anodised aluminium alloy, food-safe, no metal release
  • Base and handle: solid walnut, natural oil finish
  • Dimensions: 177 x 225 x 183 mm, weight 2.50 kg

Why Choose the Otello

The standard Atlas machines are built from chrome-plated steel with ABS plastic handles. The Otello is built from anodised aluminium and solid walnut. Anodised aluminium is harder and more scratch-resistant than chrome-plated steel, and will not pit or dull the way chrome can over years of use. The walnut base and handle are solid wood, not composite, and will outlast any plastic fitting. This is a machine made to sit on a kitchen worktop for decades. Marcato produced the Otello in limited numbers and stock will not be replenished once it sells through.

How does the Otello compare to the Atlas+?
The Atlas+ is a chrome-plated steel machine with a plastic handle. The Otello is built from anodised aluminium and solid walnut, is substantially heavier, and is produced in limited numbers. Both machines make lasagne, fettuccine and tagliolini. The Atlas+ adds spaghetti as a fourth shape and accepts optional cutting attachments; the Otello does not. If you are deciding between the two, the question is whether attachments and extra shapes matter more to you than build quality and longevity. For most serious home cooks buying a machine they intend to keep, the Otello is the stronger choice.
Is the Otello compatible with Marcato attachments or the Pastadrive motor?
No. The Otello is not compatible with Marcato's optional cutting attachments or the Pastadrive motor. It is a standalone machine producing three shapes: lasagne sheets, fettuccine and tagliolini.
What thickness settings does the Otello have?
The Otello has 7 thickness settings, running from 5.8mm at setting 1 down to 0.7mm at the finest setting. This covers the full practical range for lasagne sheets, fettuccine and tagliolini.
How do you care for the walnut fittings?
The walnut base and handle are finished with natural oils. They can be lightly re-oiled with a food-safe wood oil if the surface becomes dry over time. Do not soak in water or put in the dishwasher. Clean the machine itself with a toothpick or small brush only.
Is the Otello a limited edition?
Yes. The Otello is produced in limited numbers by Marcato as a collector's piece. Stock is not guaranteed to be replenished once sold through.
