The Otello is a limited-edition pasta machine from Marcato, built to mark the origins of the company. Otello Marcato made the first manual pasta machine in 1930, and this machine takes his name. It is fully functional and uses the same anodised aluminium alloy roller technology as the Atlas line, but the materials are in a different category entirely: the body is anodised aluminium in a champagne finish rather than chrome-plated steel, the base is solid walnut finished with natural oils, and the handle is turned walnut rather than ABS plastic. At 2.5 kg it is noticeably heavier in the hand than a standard Atlas machine. Production is limited and stock is not guaranteed to be replenished.
Add the free cleaning brush to your basket when purchasing the Otello. The brush will only be included if it is added before checkout.
The Otello rolls and cuts three pasta shapes using a 7-position thickness dial, running from 5.8 mm at the widest setting down to 0.7 mm. The dial range is slightly narrower than the 10-position Atlas machines, but covers the full practical range for the shapes the machine produces.
The body is anodised aluminium in a champagne finish. Anodising hardens the surface and makes it resistant to scratching and wear; the champagne colour is integral to the material rather than a coating. The rollers are Marcato's patented anodised aluminium alloy, food-safe with no nickel content and no coatings that can flake. The base and handle are solid walnut, finished with natural oils rather than lacquer, which means the wood can be re-oiled if needed over time.
The standard Atlas machines are built from chrome-plated steel with ABS plastic handles. The Otello is built from anodised aluminium and solid walnut. Anodised aluminium is harder and more scratch-resistant than chrome-plated steel, and will not pit or dull the way chrome can over years of use. The walnut base and handle are solid wood, not composite, and will outlast any plastic fitting. This is a machine made to sit on a kitchen worktop for decades. Marcato produced the Otello in limited numbers and stock will not be replenished once it sells through.
