This red gingham tablecloth is a woven fabric tablecloth in 100% textured polyester at 235gsm, with a soft, cotton-like feel and a matt, no-sheen finish that gives the red and white check a flat Italian trattoria look. It comes in four square sizes from 89 x 89cm to 178 x 178cm, absorbs spills where they land, resists staining, dries faster than cotton and washes at 40 to 50°C, so it copes with weekly use at home and with the laundry cycle of a café or restaurant table. The cloths are square only, so a rectangular or round table suits a different cloth, and a matching red gingham napkin is available in 40 x 40cm.

- 137 x 137cm (54 x 54"): on an 80cm square table it hangs roughly 28cm down each side
- 178 x 178cm (70 x 70"): on a 100cm square table it hangs roughly 39cm down each side
- Measuring the table top and subtracting it from the cloth, then halving the result, gives the drop on each side

What size red gingham tablecloth do I need for my table?
Measure the table top, then choose the cloth that leaves the drop you want. Subtract the table width from the cloth width and halve it: the 137 x 137cm cloth on an 80cm square table hangs roughly 28cm down each side, and the 178 x 178cm cloth on a 100cm table hangs roughly 39cm. All four sizes (89, 114, 137 and 178cm) are square, so a rectangular table needs its length checked against the cloth as well as its width.
Can I machine wash a red gingham polyester tablecloth?
Yes, at 40 to 50°C with a biological detergent and a short spin of 800 to 1000rpm at most. Washing or drying above 50°C can cause permanent creasing, so a hotter wash is the one setting to avoid.
Does this tablecloth need ironing?
Ironing gives the best finish, and it is quickest while the cloth is still slightly damp. Take it out of the machine promptly, line dry or tumble dry on the lowest heat, and iron with steam starting on a low setting.
Is this red gingham tablecloth cotton?
No, it is 100% polyester, woven with a textured plain weave that gives it a soft, cotton-like feel and no sheen. Polyester dries faster than cotton, so the cloth is ready to iron or fold sooner after washing.
How do I remove food and grease stains from a polyester tablecloth?
Use a biological detergent. For a heavy stain, work a little undiluted detergent into the mark, wash at 40 to 50°C, pause the machine after about ten minutes and leave the cloth to soak for eight hours or overnight before finishing the cycle. Ironing before the stain is gone can set it, so check the cloth first.
Can I wash the tablecloth with cotton napkins or other cotton linen?
It is better to keep it with other polyester items. Cotton lint can cling to polyester and make the surface look bobbled.
Is this a fabric tablecloth or a wipe-clean plastic one?
It is a woven polyester fabric tablecloth, not a plastic or wipe-clean cover. It absorbs spills rather than letting them run off, and it goes in the washing machine at 40 to 50°C.
Can I wash a red gingham table runner the same way?
Any 100% polyester table runner can follow the same routine: a 40 to 50°C wash, a short low spin, prompt removal from the machine and a damp iron with steam. We do not sell a gingham table runner, so this applies to polyester runners you already own. Our washing guide has the full steps.
