About Us

An independent UK specialist for Italian-made pasta and pizza tools, kitchen equipment and more.

Pasta Kitchen launched in 2016 with a straightforward aim: stock the tools that actually make a difference when you're cooking Italian food at home. We're a family-run business, and Italian cooking tools are genuinely what we know. We've been selling Marcato pasta machines and Eppicotispai tools the entire time, and every product we add to the range gets used and tested by our team at home before it goes on the site.

The range has grown a lot since then, but the approach hasn't. We choose products we believe in, from brands that have been making them properly for decades. Almost everything we sell is made in Italy. Marcato pasta machines are manufactured in Campodarsego, near Padova. Berkel slicers and knives are made in Italy, in the province of Varese. Cerutti Inox and Eppicotispai are Italian-made brands we've carried for years.

We're an authorised UK retailer for the brands we carry. Everything is supplied with UK-compatible plugs where applicable, VAT is included in the price, and there are no import duties or customs surprises on delivery.* You may be able to find some of these products cheaper from overseas sellers, but what you won't get is UK warranty support, correct specifications for the UK market, or anyone to call if something goes wrong.

The Volano B114 is the largest and most detailed machine in Berkel's current classic flywheel range. A 319mm blade, the biggest Berkel makes in production, gives a 215mm cutting capacity (280 x 215mm rectangular), and every machine carries the flower flywheel with the Van Berkel International Milano inscription on the rim and an NFC authenticity tag cast into the body. At 59kg it stands firm through the heaviest use. A matching floor stand is available separately.

Blade and slicing performance

The 319mm 100Cr6 chrome steel blade is the largest on any current production Volano, sweeping through a whole prosciutto or a large mortadella in a single pass. Thickness sets across 11 indexed positions from 0 to 1.5mm and returns to a chosen setting exactly. A built-in sharpener keeps the edge ready.

  • 319mm 100Cr6 chromed steel blade with professional concave profile
  • Slice thickness: 0 to 1.5mm across 11 indexed positions
  • Circular cutting capacity: 215mm diameter
  • Rectangular cutting capacity: 280 x 215mm
  • Minimal residual product on the final slice
  • Built-in sharpener with single sharpening movement

Construction and finish

The body is cast aluminium alloy with adjustable stainless steel and rubber feet that level out on uneven surfaces. The flower flywheel is internally balanced with a squared profile and drives the blade through a chain transmission, built for sustained, intensive use. The Van Berkel International Milano inscription runs around the flywheel rim, and gold decorative paintwork finishes the varnished panels.

  • Chain-driven transmission, built for sustained use
  • Flower flywheel with Van Berkel International Milano rim inscription
  • Internally balanced flywheel with squared profile
  • NFC tag cast into the body as a certificate of authenticity
  • Aluminium alloy cast body with adjustable stainless steel and rubber feet
  • Gold decorative detailing on varnished parts
  • Chromed steel mechanical details throughout
  • Available in red or black

Food plate and product handling

The stainless steel food plate detaches fully for cleaning. An assisted product press with a stainless steel rack keeps the food locked against the plate throughout the cut. The plate uses a quick-advance and return mechanism combined with a millimetric adjustment knob for fine product positioning.

  • Detachable stainless steel food plate
  • Assisted product press with stainless steel rack
  • Quick-advance and return plate mechanism
  • Manual millimetric positioning knob

Slice deflector and receiving plate

The wide steel deflector attaches via a facilitated coupling and removes without tools for cleaning behind the blade. The stainless steel receiving plate is removable and dishwasher-safe. A rear collection area gathers waste trimmings so they stay off the worktop.

  • Wide steel deflector with facilitated coupling
  • Removable stainless steel receiving plate, dishwasher-safe
  • Rear waste collection area
  • Quick-release deflector for blade-area cleaning

Safety

A full chromed aluminium blade ring guard covers the blade, opening via a manual lever positioned under the machine tower. The operating controls are black anodised aluminium, positioned to keep the operator's hand clear of the cutting edge.

  • Full chromed aluminium blade ring guard
  • Manual lever blade opening system, positioned under the tower
  • Black anodised aluminium ergonomic controls

Stand sold separately

The B114 slices on any flat surface, and its matching Volano floor stand, shared with the B3 and Tribute, is available separately when you want it at standing height.

Why choose a flywheel slicer over an electric one?
Hand-powered slicing gives you complete control over speed and pressure, which is what lets you take a whole cured ham down to a translucent slice. The flywheel mechanism is beautifully simple, with fewer parts than a motor, easy to maintain and built to last decades. Berkel flywheels from the early 1900s are still slicing today, and the B114 is the fullest expression of that engineering in the current range.
How does the B114 compare with the Tribute?
The B114 is the flagship of the classic range, with the largest 319mm blade, a 215mm cutting capacity, the Van Berkel International Milano flywheel rim and an NFC authenticity tag cast into the body. The Tribute shares much of the same build in a slightly smaller 300mm machine with a two-movement sharpener and the heritage Model B design. Choose the B114 when you want the biggest blade and the flagship detailing.
What does the NFC tag do?
An NFC chip is cast directly into the B114's body during manufacture. Scanning it with a smartphone links to Berkel's certificate of authenticity for that specific machine, confirming it is a genuine Berkel and giving you a permanent record of the piece you own.
What can the B114 slice, and what does the 100Cr6 blade spec mean?
The B114 accepts products up to 215mm in diameter or 280 x 215mm rectangular, covering whole cured meats, large joints and hard cheeses. The blade is 100Cr6 chrome steel, a high-carbon alloy used in precision cutting tools that takes a fine edge, holds it through repeated use, and resists corrosion from food contact.
Does the B114 come with a stand?
The B114 slices on any solid worktop as it comes. When you want it at standing height, a matching floor stand, shared with the B3 and Tribute, is available separately.
