About Us

An independent UK specialist for Italian-made pasta and pizza tools, kitchen equipment and more.

Pasta Kitchen launched in 2016 with a straightforward aim: stock the tools that actually make a difference when you're cooking Italian food at home. We're a family-run business, and Italian cooking tools are genuinely what we know. We've been selling Marcato pasta machines and Eppicotispai tools the entire time, and every product we add to the range gets used and tested by our team at home before it goes on the site.

The range has grown a lot since then, but the approach hasn't. We choose products we believe in, from brands that have been making them properly for decades. Almost everything we sell is made in Italy. Marcato pasta machines are manufactured in Campodarsego, near Padova. Berkel slicers and knives are made in Italy, in the province of Varese. Cerutti Inox and Eppicotispai are Italian-made brands we've carried for years.

We're an authorised UK retailer for the brands we carry. Everything is supplied with UK-compatible plugs where applicable, VAT is included in the price, and there are no import duties or customs surprises on delivery.* You may be able to find some of these products cheaper from overseas sellers, but what you won't get is UK warranty support, correct specifications for the UK market, or anyone to call if something goes wrong.

This dough cutter is a flat wooden bench scraper with one straight edge for cutting and a flat face for scraping, so it does two jobs with a single tool. Use the edge to portion a batch of pasta, bread or pizza dough into even pieces, then turn it flat side down to clear flour and stray bits of dough off the worktop between stages. It's compact at 15 x 10.5 x 0.8cm, sits comfortably in one hand, and comes with a cotton storage bag so it stays clean in a drawer rather than rattling around loose.

How It Works

The straight edge divides dough cleanly rather than dragging or tearing it, which matters more on anything enriched or high in hydration, where a blunt edge pulls the dough out of shape instead of slicing through it. Flip it over and the same edge doubles as a scraper, clearing loose flour, offcuts and dried dough off the counter in one pass, so there's no reaching for a cloth mid-prep.

  • Portions pasta, bread, pizza and pastry dough into even pieces
  • Scrapes worktops clean between stages without scratching wood, laminate or stone
  • Gathers loose flour and stray ingredients into one place

Care and Compatibility

  • Wash by hand in warm soapy water and dry it promptly
  • Don't leave it soaking or put it through a dishwasher, as prolonged moisture makes the wood swell and takes the edge out of shape
  • Not built for lifting or transferring dough; our stainless steel bench scraper covers that job better

What is a wooden dough cutter used for?
A wooden dough cutter, also called a bench scraper, is used to portion dough, scrape the work surface clean between stages, and gather loose flour or ingredients into one place. It's a standard tool in Italian kitchens for pasta, bread and pizza making.
Can I use this to lift and transfer dough as well as cut it?
It's built for cutting and scraping rather than lifting, since the wood is sized for precision rather than heavy handling. If you regularly need to lift and transfer dough as well as portion it, a wider stainless steel bench scraper with a handle is better suited to that job.
Can I use a wooden dough cutter on any worktop?
Yes. Wood won't scratch stone, laminate or wooden worktops. Avoid scraping it against ceramic or glass surfaces with heavy force, as the edge could chip over time.
How do I care for this wooden dough cutter?
Hand wash only. Don't leave it soaking in water or put it in the dishwasher, as prolonged moisture will cause the wood to swell and crack. Dry it promptly and store it in the included cotton bag.
What size is the Marcato dough cutter?
It measures 15 x 10.5cm and is 8mm thick, small enough to sit in a drawer or utensil pot but with enough weight in the blade to cut through dough cleanly.
Does it work well with sticky or high-hydration dough?
Yes. Wood doesn't draw heat from the dough the way metal does, so it's less prone to sticking when you're cutting a wetter dough, though for very sticky mixes a light dusting of flour on the blade still helps.
