About Us

An independent UK specialist for Italian-made pasta and pizza tools, kitchen equipment and more.

Pasta Kitchen launched in 2016 with a straightforward aim: stock the tools that actually make a difference when you're cooking Italian food at home. We're a family-run business, and Italian cooking tools are genuinely what we know. We've been selling Marcato pasta machines and Eppicotispai tools the entire time, and every product we add to the range gets used and tested by our team at home before it goes on the site.

The range has grown a lot since then, but the approach hasn't. We choose products we believe in, from brands that have been making them properly for decades. Almost everything we sell is made in Italy. Marcato pasta machines are manufactured in Campodarsego, near Padova. Berkel slicers and knives are made in Italy, in the province of Varese. Cerutti Inox and Eppicotispai are Italian-made brands we've carried for years.

We're an authorised UK retailer for the brands we carry. Everything is supplied with UK-compatible plugs where applicable, VAT is included in the price, and there are no import duties or customs surprises on delivery.* You may be able to find some of these products cheaper from overseas sellers, but what you won't get is UK warranty support, correct specifications for the UK market, or anyone to call if something goes wrong.

Disclaimer

We’ve put together the product information to help make your shopping experience on pasta.kitchen as smooth as possible.
While we do our best to keep everything accurate and up to date, it’s always a good idea to check the packaging and labels before using a product, as ingredients and details can sometimes change.

The Volano P15 revives Berkel's Model P of the 1940s, built on a cast iron body dressed in high-gloss polished aluminium and stainless steel. Cast iron gives it a weight and a character all its own within the current range. The 285mm blade sits between the B2 and B3, and the gauge plate opens all the way to 3mm, the widest cut of any current Volano. A matching floor stand is available separately.

Blade and slicing performance

The 285mm 100Cr6 chrome steel blade carries the same concave profile as the rest of the Volano range. The gauge plate knob adjusts continuously from 0 to 3mm, so you can move from wafer-thin charcuterie to a thick-cut roast, a wider range than any other current model. A built-in sharpener with exposed chrome detailing keeps the edge keen.

  • 285mm 100Cr6 chromed steel blade with professional concave profile
  • Slice thickness: 0 to 3mm, the widest range in the current Volano lineup
  • Built-in sharpener with exposed chrome finishes
  • Minimal residual product on the final slice

Construction and finish

The body is cast iron with high-gloss polished aluminium and stainless steel parts, a heavier and more traditional build than the aluminium alloy casting used elsewhere in the range. The flower flywheel is internally balanced and stays put at rest, and drives the blade through a chain transmission, the robust system used across the Volano range. Gold decorative paintwork runs across the varnished panels, and the compact footprint suits it to the home.

  • Chain-driven transmission, as used across the Volano range
  • Cast iron body with high-gloss polished aluminium and stainless steel parts
  • Flower flywheel, internally balanced
  • Rubber feet for stability during slicing
  • Gold decorative detailing on varnished parts
  • Compact footprint, designed for worktop use
  • Available in red or black

Food plate and product handling

The stainless steel food plate detaches fully for cleaning. The product press is a chromed steel assembly of two opposed columns connected by a serrated arm with friction knobs, gripping the product from both sides for a secure hold through the cut. The plate uses a quick-advance and return mechanism combined with a millimetric adjustment knob for fine positioning.

  • Detachable stainless steel food plate
  • Chromed steel press holder with two columns, friction knobs and serrated arm
  • Quick-advance and return plate mechanism
  • Manual millimetric positioning knob

Slice deflector and receiving tray

The steel deflector opens via a quick-release system for cleaning behind the blade. The receiving tray is white glass paste with a sliding meat table, true to the original Model P. A rear collection area gathers waste trimmings so they stay off the worktop.

  • Steel deflector with quick-release opening system
  • White glass paste receiving tray with sliding meat table
  • Rear waste collection area

Safety

A full stainless steel blade ring guard covers the front of the blade, opening manually when in use. A fixed food-grade aluminium ring guard sits at the rear. The operating controls are black anodised aluminium, positioned to keep the operator's hand clear of the cutting edge.

  • Full stainless steel front blade ring guard with manual open/close
  • Fixed food-grade aluminium rear blade ring guard
  • Black anodised aluminium ergonomic controls

Stand sold separately

The P15 slices on any flat surface, and its own matching floor stand, made specifically for the P15, is available separately when you want it at standing height.

What's in the box

Every Volano P15 ships with a Berkel #berkelcare cleaning kit, including a spray sanitiser and cloth designed for use on Berkel's chromed and polished surfaces.

Why choose a flywheel slicer over an electric one?

Hand-powered slicing gives you direct control over speed and pressure, so you can take charcuterie down to a whisper or cut a roast thicker at will. The flywheel mechanism is beautifully simple, with fewer parts than a motor, easy to maintain and built to last decades. Berkel flywheels from the early 1900s are still slicing today, and the P15 carries that heritage in a cast iron machine modelled on the 1940s original.

What is the Volano P15 based on?

The P15 is a faithful reproduction of Berkel's Model P from the 1940s, with the flower flywheel and cast iron body that made the original a design icon. It brings that heritage into a machine you can slice with every day, finished in high-gloss polished aluminium and stainless steel.

How does the P15 differ from the other Volano models?

The P15 is the only current Volano built on a cast iron body, which gives it a weight and character of its own. Its 285mm blade sits between the B2's 265mm and the B3's 300mm, and its gauge plate opens to 3mm, the widest cut in the range. It has a white glass-paste receiving tray, true to the 1940s Model P, and its own dedicated floor stand is available separately.

What can the P15 slice, and what does the 100Cr6 blade spec mean?

The 285mm blade handles most whole cured meats and hard cheeses, and the 0 to 3mm range covers everything from fine charcuterie to thicker cuts. The blade is 100Cr6 chrome steel, a high-carbon alloy used in precision cutting tools that takes a fine edge, holds it through repeated use, and resists corrosion from food contact.

Does the P15 come with a stand?

The P15 slices on any solid worktop as it comes. When you want it at standing height, a dedicated P15 floor stand is available separately.
